A lot has changed since our last update. Covid-19 has taken over the world and we have to learn how to deal with it. These are very difficult times for many of us. Currently there is no recreational or pro sports being played in Ontario. No one knows for how long this pandemic will last. Please follow the rules being put in place by our Provincial and Federal government which will help us beat this Virus faster. The Ajax Tennis Club will follow the guidelines put forward by the Town of Ajax. For more Covid-19 Updates please visit the Town of Ajax website by clicking here!
During this crisis, the Ajax Tennis Club will move ahead with the planning for the upcoming season so we are ready to go once we get the green light from the Town of Ajax. Online registration will be available at the beginning of April. Paper registrations can be downloaded from our website and mailed in. More info is provided below!
I understand that many of you right now don’t want to think about Tennis, however we as a club need to make plans for the upcoming season. As mentioned above, Paper registrations can be downloaded from our website at www.ajaxtennisclub.org!
Please note that there are 2 separate forms now. One form is for Adults and Senior memberships, while the other form is for our Junior and Junior Plus members. All Tennis group classes like Aerobics and our complete Junior program can be found on this forms. In the past you had to fill out two forms if you wanted to take lessons with our Club Pro. This year we have integrated this into one form which should make things easier. All payments come to the Ajax Tennis Club with the exception of Private Lessons which can be arranged with our two Club Pro’s.
Online registrations should be available in early April. You will be notified once online registration becomes available.
Unfortunately due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we are not allowed to do any in-person registration sessions at this time.
Competitive ICTA and Durham League Teams
We will register our teams with both of these leagues as planned as we don’t want to miss out when the season starts. We will register our Ladies A and Ladies B Team with the ICTA League and also register our Durham A, B and C Teams with the Durham League.
Court Resurfacing and Public Court Access
The Court resurfacing is still scheduled to go ahead as of right now. It is currently in the bidding stage listed at the Town of Ajax website. The bidding closes on April 7. With everything going on right now, we are not sure if there will be a delay but it needs to be expected that the timeframe might change. We’ll keep you posted as soon as we find out more. For more information on the bidding process and design, please click here!
I am still receiving e-mails about people asking on where we will play and if we will offer all of our programs. I can assure you that we already have court permits for the public courts which will allow us to run ALL of our programs. The daytime and Junior programs will play in their usual time slots. Our evening Durham A, B and Teams will play their matches away until our courts are finished. The Tuesday Night House League takes place on Tuesday evening from 6:55PM to 8:30PM. Our Thursday Night Progressive House League will be played over 2 nights. Courts 1-4 will play on Thursdays from 7:00 – 8:15PM and Courts 5-8 will be played Fridays from 7:00 – 8:15PM. We will switch the days for these sessions on a monthly basis. Our Friday Night Social is taking place on Sundays from 4-7pm. We are open to make changes to these evening programs depending on the feedback we receive.
We had planned a meeting for our members to discuss all this but unfortunately we won’t be able to have that meeting until the end of April the earliest.
As mentioned earlier in this newsletter, these are unprecedented times for everyone including the Tennis Club. We are moving ahead with the registrations as normal, while we are well aware that there might be a delay in getting the season started. We have to stay positive and hope that there will be a Summer Tennis season. For people signing up for a membership and programs, rest assured that you will be refunded in case Covid-19 prevents us from playing.
We would like to hear from you. Tell us if you agree with us on taking registrations. Let us know about the public courts schedule. Tell us about any concerns you might have.
A peronsal message from the President!
I know these are difficult times for many of us. Not being able to socialize with our friends, do the things we are used to doing on a daily or regular basis, or being temporarily laid off. Many of you will be dealing with financial hardship as well as emotional issues in the coming weeks and months. Please follow the guidelines provided by the Town of Ajax, The Provincial and Federal government, they are in place to keep us all safe and prevent even further spread of the virus. This is not the time to be selfish. We, as a whole community have to stand up to this Virus. By following the governments instructions not only will we be able to get back to the things we love to do but we are also making a contribution to the well being of erveryone else around us.
Please Stay Safe and a I am positive that we will see each other on the courts sooner rather then later.
